Agriculture Ruined the World

Tuesday, March 24th, 2009

You heard it here, folks.  Agriculture ruined the world and continues to do so.  Before agriculture, we had constraints on our population and on our dominance.  All our food was just enough for the population that was there.  We did not say the Earth belongs to us, but rather that we belonged to the Earth.  I read in the book Ishmael that 99.8% of the world’s population was added in the last 10,000 years, exactly around the time that we started dominating the land instead of living off of it.

Why was this?  Because creating more food led to more people, and then food production was increased, which led to more people, and so on until we got to where we are today, with hyperinflated cities and towns with central authority and heirarchy that was all made possible through the advent of agriculture.  One book I suggest reading on this whole issue is called Against the Grain by Richard Manning.  I already knew most of what he wrote about, but there were some new information that I had never considered before.  In order to understand what a big problem agriculture is and how unnatural it has become today just to sustain and grow our population more, get the book and read it.

Agriculture forced our populations to grow and to concentrate because the food was only in one place and it had destroyed the forests that used to exist there, so it left us completely dependent on it.  Not only that, it concnetrated populations so much that central authority was the only way for there to be any order, creating a necessary evil that still lurks today.  And also, since grains fed opiate receptors in our brains, we became addicted to agriculture.  And finally, it enhanced our need to dominate more land to feed our expanding population, which in turn created more people and then more food and so on.

This is exactly why feeding starving children in Africa will only make the overpopulation problem worse.  When humans or any other animal feels like they are going to die and their whole tribe is starving, they reproduce more to ensure that at least some of the children survive, and then we feed them with food from a farm in Nebraska, making populations larger and more mouths to feed.  In pre-agriculture, the bounty at the hunter-forager’s feet was enough to sustain a certain population, but no more.  If the population ever got out of balance, then some of the people would die off.  Getting out of balance had a price and it kept all living things around instead of the mass extinctions we are seeing imposed by humans.  We have no right to just kill off millions  of species because we are only thinking about ourselves and no other animal.

It’s a sick world since we started civlization.  It really is.  And even if there is a crash, who’s to say that we won’t start another agriculture and another civilization?  There’s no stopping it unless we realize that the way we live is wrong and that it is very, very destructive to all biological life, including humans.  Look at the pollution that civlization has caused.  Look at the corporate giants who love to dump things that destroy ecosystems.  Are they held responsible?  No.  But that doesn’t really matter right now.  What matters is we get out of this system.  Moving back to the hunter-forager way of life is simple and will allow our population to get down to a sustainable level, a permanent state in which humans can exist for millions more years.  We’ve only been in agriculture for 10,000 years and we’ve been around for about 3 million.  Why don’t we scrap the whole agricultural industrial complex and allow the Earth to heal itself so we can go back to being what it truly means to be human?  Why are we still addicted to the drug of civlization, allowing it to take us to our deaths?

When Jesus said we should immitate the birds and bees, he was being very profound, but he was no savior.  The people never did go “back” to immitating every other creature in the world.  I put the word back in quotes because back is relative.  We could call it forward to being ourselves again.  Jesus knew how we were supposed to live, but nobody got the message.  And those who did never acted upon it.  But it shows how bad life was even back then that we felt we needed a savior.  To be saved from what?  Society created through agriculture.  It was a hell world back then and it’s a hell world now.  Why do you think people look forward to the apocalypse?  They hate this shitty world and they want to get out of it.  Why are movies like The Road Warrior popular?  Because we fantasize about a world with no trees where we are outside fighting for something that matters instead of checking account balances and filing legal documents.  The civilized world has become boring and predictable and we are either subconsciously or consciously bringing it down purposely because we know in our bones that this is not the way we were meant to live.

We don’t have to scrap our intelligence and become animals in the sense that we don’t communicate or accomplish anything, but it would help if we just started by living off the bounty of the Earth instead of creating more and more food through dominating the Earth, creating billions of people that shouldn’t be here if we had stayed in balance.

America Makes Me Sick

Monday, March 23rd, 2009

America is the pinnacle of a totalitarian government.  They proved that on 9/11.  They bombed their own buildings and buried all the evidence, then blamed it on a “radical terrorist group,” and we actually believed them, even though they destroyed all the evidence, and had no basis for their argument other than the basis they created themselves.  They used demolition charges in the Twin Towers, causing them to fall at free fall speed, something that even on 9/11 I knew was fabricated.  There is no way a building that strong just falls down in less than 10 seconds after being hit by a plane at the top.  No way.  These were steel-columned buildings.  And Dick Cheney took over Norad on that day or the day before and told the people there not to shoot down the planes.  No president or vice president had ever taken over Norad before.  The people who shoot down the planes were doing a drill that simulated planes attacking the World Trade Center on the very same day.  Give me a break, America.

Sure, I live in America.  I eat the food loaded with pesticides and drink the water full of radioactivity.   My ecological footprint is lower than the average American, but I bet it’s still 10 times more than a tribeswoman in Kenya.  I’m not addicted to more and more like th average American because I know that doing this is only feeding the problem.  I do buy some things new, but I mostly buy used because things that are used work just the same or maybe just a little worse than a brand new item.  I try not to become immersed in the world of pop culture because it is like a drug, just like civilization itself.  It is a very destructive drug and it is fueled by the marketing and advertising firms.  The whole message is that you’re not good enough until you buy our product.  Then your life will become amazing.  Well, people continue to buy and buy, and their lives aren’t much better.  They may get like a high from buying the item, but afterwards they need to buy something else to feel the same high again.  Consumerism is a drug.

America runs on consumption.  It should be the new national pastime.  Forget baseball.  The more we buy, the more the rich get richer.  The people who own these establishments from which we buy our addictions from become giants who now have leverage in politics, leading to a fascist state.  We are going from freedom to fascism.  But who are we kidding?  Freedom has never been a top priority in America.  Remember what we did to the Native Americans?  And the Africans?  Not to mentioin the Japanese in WWII.  Where was their freedom?  Even Columbus used to hack up Native Americans and feed them to his dogs.  “All men are created equal” was complete and utter bullshit at the time they wrote it, and it’s still bullshit today.  Why do 5 companies own all the television stations in America?  Because they want to keep our perspectives narrow to their unenlightened self interests.

The all American corporation Wal-Mart is the pinnacle of the fascist rule.  It exploits workers in this country and far worse in other countries to keep their prices so low that they are growing while most of the other stores are shrinking.  They continue to expand without limit because they keep people down by allowing them to earn a lower wage and still be able to eat.  They outlast their competition because they’ll always have the lower price because they are that much better at exploiting labor.  And people shop there because they have to.  As the middle class falls lower and lower into the lower class, more and more people are forced to shop at Wal-Mart or just simply eat less.  And the people at the top of this pyramid scheme keep getting richer and the poor get poorer.  Why does America have to be this way?

The poor have vices like no other.  They drink, smoke cigarettes, and do illegal drugs.  I often wondered why they did this, spending money they could use for food and shelter on booze and tobacco, so I asked someone about it, and they said, “When you’re poor, your existence is pretty much hopeless.   Your work is long and hard.  You feel powerless and hopeless about your future, so you need a vice to at least feel good some of the time.”  But having a vice hampers their ability to better themselves.  And the people at Coors and Marlboro are happy to sell them complacency in the form of addictions.  Because anything to shut them up, to keep them from actually participating in what they call a democracy today.  Television is another version of this drug.  It keeps us passive, watching the screen for hours on end, contributing nothing, and fighting for nothing.  Why do you think the government is paying for poor people to have converter boxes for non-cable TV?  It’s that important to their whole scheme.

It’s not quite 1985 and it’s not quite Brave New World, but this new America has pieces of each.  It especially has parts of Animal Farm.  We are conditioned from an early age to believe what Mother Culture tells us to believe, that life is lived only under the chains of civlization and any othe way is far worse.  Then there’s the whole 1984 scenario, where we are being watched almost everywhere we go, soon we’ll have RFID chips in our skin and be subject to more and more restrictions on our freedoms.  At least it’s comforting to know that America is going down in flames soon because we are losing money every day and the economy will never bounce back and if it does, it will only be temporary because it is only boosted by fake money that was printed out of thin air, money that will never be paid for because it’s easier to just print more money.  Soon we’ll have hyperinflation in this country and it will cost $150,000 for a loaf of bread and millionaires will be considered poor.  Even billionaires will be thought of as lower middle class.

Our national debt is in the trillions, but we keep spending because we’re addicted to it.   Nothing gets us higher than buying and spending and not caring about the consequences.  Maybe the human race wasn’t cut  out for civilization after all.  Our biological needs and addictions get in the way of forming a society that will actually work indefinitely.  So why do we keep doing it?  It’s like a drug addict who is killing his body by taking the drug, and knows it, but cannot stop because of the physical dependence on it.  The same way the rulers of the country are addicted to tighter and tighter control, because it’s easier and more gratifying to squeeze tighter than it is to let go.  These are the people who fantasize about a police state, one where they know where every human being is at every time, under what they refer to as a One World Government.  They’ve already signed the North American Union without the public’s knowledge because the media, owned by 5 companies, did not report on it because then it would lead to ordinary Americans knowing too much.  As someone I can’t remember once said, if we knew even 1% of what went on in this country, we would have a revolution.  But we’re kept in the dark purposely so that the rich and elites of this country can carve up this once beautiful land a little finer among themselves.

Aren’t you proud to be an American? I know I’m not. I was born here by chance and until I find a better place to live, I’ll stay on the fringe of America. Just because I live here doesn’t mean I have to participate in the mind-numbing rituals of America. Our whole culture is killing us.

Money and the Crisis of Civlization–This is an excellent piece on how money and the way interest works has damaged our civilization to a collapse.  Also about how we’ve monetized everything to the point of exhaustion, giving the explanation why there is a financial crisis.  I felt it was a very revealing and interesting piece of literature that I felt my loyal readers would enjoy.  Courtesy of Reality Sandwich.  I would like to hear your opinions on this piece.  Feel free to comment below.  Enjoy!

Autonomy

Friday, March 20th, 2009

What happened to our autonomy?  We used to be able to roam the world freely without a care in the world, going from place to place without having to surrender to searches and have passports.  This world has become a security state with cameras and guards everywhere.  We’re always being watched by someone or something.  We have no real freedom anymore.  We can’t even express certain opinions freely without being subject to the penalties of law.  We are told there is only one way to live and that it’s the way every other human lives and if we go against it, we are worthless.  We are deviant.  We are bad.  It’s total bunk because good and bad are subjective by their very foundation.  Humans made up good and bad.  But there’s a big grey area and it is so unnecessary because there is no such thing.

We cannot do as we please because the way we’ve structured our society, it would lead to chaos.  But 10,000 years ago, we could do as we pleased, without need for law and order.  Agriculture concentrated populations to the point where there had to be central authority or it would all fall apart.  We began making the Earth our bitch instead of living on it and off of it.  Since then, our population has grown exponentially to more than 100 times what it was 10,000 years ago.  Since we’ve decided to create food for ourselves instead of just living off the land that’s there and thereby controlling population, we have manufactured more and more food, which has in turn led to more and more people.  Even as we increase food to feed our growing population, we in turn create more people.  Feeding the starving people in Africa only feeds their population growth.  It’s sad, but true.  And as we grow our populations, the security tightens around us because it takes more authority to control 6 billion than it does 3 or 4 billion people.  And people are still having children!

The whole reason we need laws and control structures in the first place is the tribes (or countries) got too big because of agriculture.  If we would have stayed living in balance, taking only what we need and leaving the rest, as pre-historic people did, then we would still be living in a lush, green paradise as we remember reading about in the Bible.  Cain murdering Abel was the representation of the Takers, or civilized people murdering and exterminating the Leavers, or nature-based peoples.  The Takers and Leavers both have a myth or story they tell themselves.  The Takers believe the world was created solely for man and his selfish wants and needs.   He believes he is the crown of creation and everything on this planet is here to serve him.  The Leavers, on the other hand, believe that they are stewards of the Earth, making it bountiful and diverse.  Keeping it the way it is or better in terms of diversity.

Why diversity?  Diversity is resilient.  If something drastic happens and there are only 15 species on the planet, it is less likely that all of them or any of them will survive.  Let’s say the temperature of the Earth was lowered by 20 degrees.  If there are millions or billions of different species on the Earth, the probablility that some of them would survive is very, very high.  But if there are 15 or even just hundreds of species, it will severely cripple the world if something as drastic as a global cooling happened.  This is the main point in why diversity trumps all.  Us, as humans, have been making the world less and less diverse for thousands of years.  We keep only what we can use, as if all the other life were meaningless.  And it may kill us in the long run.  Check that, it will kill us because the more we unify the Earth to suit only our needs and the needs of the food we eat, the less resilient the world will become.  Remember the blight in Ireland over the potatoes.  It wasn’t because the blight destroyed every species of potato.  It was because they were only growing 2 or 3 types of potatoes, instead of the thousands there are in existence.  If they were growing thousands of types of potatoes, then I’m sure that not all of them would be victim to the blight.  This is what agriculture does to the world.

We’ve taken autonomy away from many animals, such as on farms, in plantations, and at zoos.  We break the animals’ spirits and force them to comply with our selfish wants and needs.  Instead of allowing them to be autonomous, we see them as serving us, because after all we are what the world and this universe was created for.  The laws of nature and the universe do not apply to us.  We are “above” all those other creatures, so we can create our own laws.  But we are also captive in civilization because we were never taught any other way to live.  So we accept the world as it is, instead of moving to change it back to the way it once was, perfect and diverse, with total democracy among all animals and living things.  It’s so easy to take the path of least resistance when everyone else is doing the same.

We lived for 3 million years in balance and after 10,000 years in agricultural societies, we’ve destroyed most of the world.  That is less than 0.4% of our existence as Homo sapiens.  Sure, the real destruction on a massive scale has only really begun in the last century, but it’s like the first flying machines that would go off a cliff and it would be in the air for awhile, but slowly sinking because the people who built them did not understand the laws of aerodynamics.  They would look down and see the wonders below them, but at the same time see the ground coming fast at them at 32 feet per second per second, an accelerating pace.  It would take until just before the crash that the person flying the aircraft would realize he’d made a big mistake and when he did, it would be too late.  That’s where our civilization is now.  Unsustainable, yes.  Heading towards a crash, yes.  In the middle of a crash, possibly.  But people are still going through the motions because they don’t know any other way to live.  All the forests and jungles they used to call home are being cut down in the name of progress.  It’s because people are so attached to the story of the Takers that becoming a Leaver is almost out of the question, at least until the Earth heals from what we’ve done to it.

We are controlled, so we seek to control other living beings, other people, physical space, etc.  In this environment in which we live, our response is normal because we can’t argue with the rest of the world, can we?  We think, “People need to be controlled at all costs because if they’re not, the world would be a terrible place.”  But doesn’t our pre-history show the exact opposite?  Sure, there would be a time of chaos if we switched today to a Leaver mindset, but after the initial backlash, the world would become a paradise again.  We would have much smaller numbers and never let it get out of control again.  That is, of course, with the right mindset.  We would have to all know both the Leaver and Taker stories and all opt to live the way of the Leaver because it is the only sustainable way.  Otherwise, we might as well go extinct because it’s going to happen eventually anyway living by the Taker’s rules and stories.  Let’s get our autonomy back, people!  Absolute freedom!  It is the natural way.

We Have No Rights

Thursday, March 19th, 2009

I think it’s important to look at how we really don’t have any rights anywhere in the world.  They’re not rights if they can be taken away.  Look at the Patriot Act.  Look what it did to our rights.  It was unconstitutional, and yet it was still allowed to pass.  The Federal Reserve Act was unconstitutional and it’s making our money worth nothing.  Even the 16th Amendment never passed, but was falsely added to the Bill of Rights because when there are powerful insiders who will do anything to expand their power, democracy doesn’t really apply to them.  America has become a fascist country.  Our rights are for sale.  We bow to the corporations to help us.  It’s fucking embarassing.  They pollute our world, make us and animals sick, and we give them subsidies!  Isn’t that a great fucking deal for them?

Our government is completely full of shit.  I’m not saying that every person is full of shit, but the majority of people who we elect to office are power-hungry monsters who just want to carve up this country a little finer for themselves and their rich buddies.  That’s what America has become.  And America has never been the free nation we boast it as.  Sure, it may be freer than other nations, but it’s never been free.  Look at slavery, the genocide of the Indians/Native Americans.  Genocide doesn’t seem free to me.  It seems rather pathological.  Where were their rights?  Women couldn’t vote until 1919.  Gays still can’t get married and were victims of police harassment up until the late 1970s.  We are now owned by the Federal Reserve, which is unconstitutional by its very existence.  A company cannot be in charge of circulation of currency.  It is up to Congress to coin money, not some behemoth.  Our rights are only there for show, people.  They’re make-believe.  Here’s a George Carlin video that will explain  it better:  George Carlin-Rights and Priveleges

It’s very hard to come to terms with the fact that we have no rights.  Look at Japanese Americans in the 1940s who were put into internment camps because their parents were born in the wrong country.  Give me a break, America.  But this is the pathological need that society fills.  Control and extermination.  We control what we cannot exterminate.  We exterminate to keep dissenting voices away from us.  It’s easier to kill someone than to face their criticism in these people’s eyes.  Why do you think JFK was assassinated.  What about MLK?  Malcom X?  Bobby Kennedy?  All killed because their ideas were against what the established authority said was normal and “free.”  It seems like in today’s world, the only right we have is to remain silent. :)

I figure we should have either no rights or unlimited rights.  Just like George.  It makes perfect sense.  I too lean towards the unlimited side.  Animals don’t need to have rights and laws and regulations.  They work it out between themselves and the result is millions times more complex than we can ever imagine.  But doing this with humans scares the hell out of the people in power and they’ve kept us so dependent on the system that billions of people would die if central control went away.  I’m more apt to call that type of event as a cleansing more than a mass extinction.  The people who die are merely allowing the world to heal.  And I think a world with unlimited rights, where people can do whatever they want, whenever they want, just like animals, it will be a far more interesting place to live.  For more on the subject of rights, here’s Ran Prieur’s essay, Against Rights.

Our rights are only there to keep us in line, to pacify us.  Why do we have different rights in different countries?  How come some people have no rights at all?  How come some people have their homes destroyed for the sole purpose of “progress?”  Why don’t we just stop the charade and just come out and say it?  We have no rights.  The police of the world and evil powerful insiders are here to keep our rights and power blocked from us, to keep us in a cocoon of fear and complacency.  To keep us busy while they ruin the world and humanity.  In this hard world of law and order, some people have to step up and say that this is complete and utter bullshit and we need to put a stop to the controlling and manipulative world.  We have the power to create heaven on Earth, but we can’t quit our jobs because then we can’t afford to eat.  And working at our jobs just contributes further to the destruction of the world.

Most jobs do destroy the world.  99% of jobs out there destroy the world.  Some to a lesser extent than others, but destruction is destruction all the same.  Any job that uses paper destroys the world.  Any job that extracts resources destroys the world.  Any job that grows food destroys that world.  But in order to be able to live, we have to work, which means we have to destroy the world.  Except for that 1% that is.  But it keeps us busy so we don’t notice as our rights are being taken away.  Our power stripped down more and more and concentrated in the bellies of the elites while we feed them through the fruits of our labor.  They’re not elite because they’re anything special.  They’re elite because they are masters at manipulation and deceiving people.  They commit fraud on global levels and no one ever hears about it because we are too overworked and overspent to worry about things other than our survival.  The news feeds that fear with talks every day of the recession and how jobs are scarce.  They’ve got us by the balls here.  The media and the insiders who own the media control our information, so the depletion of our rights won’t make the news at 6.  A crime story is better off for the ratings and to keep the truth a secret while keeping our fears in reality..

But it doesn’t have to be this way.  We can change it.  But we all have to be a part of it.  Not just a fringe group.  Everyone.  Why don’t people want to get off their asses and defend their rights and their freedom?  Are we too lazy or too dependent on the current system?  Is that what it is?  Are we oversocialized to the point that living a natural life is impossible, due to the fact that we don’t know how and that the lands around us are no longer suitable for it?  They’ve got us in a prison people.  The most important part of getting out of a prison is seeing the bars.  I hope we can all get out someday.

P.S. It’s a good thing we still have the free speech right, otherwise I could be put in jail for dissenting opinions.  My anti-Americanism could be a threat to the status quo.  Why not just come out and label me a terrorist?  Pretty soon, the only speech that will be allowed is in praise of the United States and its glory.  People wiping their asses with the Constitution and Bill of Rights.  Remember what George W. said?  “The constitution is just a piece of paper.”
